We’ve heard friends and colleagues complaining so many times about the difficulty of continuing to run their practices after graduation (and we experienced this ourselves too). One of the reasons is that the environment where we were encouraged to experiment, and were free to support and stimulate each other to progress our practices has gone. With this in mind we thoughtfully invited four ‘tutors’. Let’s do crits!
‘Tutors’
1. David Blackmore - photographer, practising artist and lecturer
David Blackmore has exhibited internationally including solo shows at Gallery Vassie (Amsterdam), Draíocht (Dublin), Central European House of Photography (Bratislava), Schwartz Gallery (London) and SITEATION (Dublin). During this period, David’s practice has moved away from photography and now encompasses a wide range of mediums including sculpture, intervention, installation, performance, walking and utilising appropriated objects.
David is an Honorary Research Associateship with the Slade School of Fine Art /UCL Art Museum and a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster.
2. Anthony Luvera - artist and writer
Anthony is an Australian artist, writer and educator based in London. His photographic work has been exhibited widely in galleries, public spaces and festivals, including the British Museum, London Underground’s Art on the Underground, National Portrait Gallery London, and Les Rencontres D’Arles Photographie.
His writing appears regularly in a wide range of publications including Photoworks, Source and Photographies.
Anthony is Principal Lecturer and Course Director of MA Photography and Collaboration at Coventry University.
3. Katja Mayer - fashion photographer and lecturer
Katja is a German-born fashion photographer, artist and lecturer based in London.
Her editorial work has been published widely and she is a regular contributor to French Numero. Commercial clients include Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu. Her artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.
4. Bindi Vora - photographic artist and lecturer
Bindi Vora is a Curatorial Assistant at the Hayward Gallery, a photographic artist and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster. Prior to the Hayward Gallery, she worked at The Photographers’ Gallery curating their off-site commissions.
As a contemporary photographic artist, her practice utilises various analogue processes, often taking inspiration from her everyday surroundings, which include her personal archive. Her work teases out subtle marks and pigments within the materials she uses, such as negatives and photographic paper; the results often create vast spaces of colour, light and subtle detail that contemplate ideas of perception and representation of the photographic print. She has participated in a number of exhibitions across Europe; in 2014, she published her first photographic book In the blue light we failed. which was recently acquired MoMA; The Women’s Art Library and others.
